Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #275: Filling the Frame

I think one of the original lessons I learned from the professional photographers who follow me (and who I follow) is to “home in” on your subject.  That has taught me to look very closely at possible subjects, and try to eliminate extraneous details that might detract from the subject.  My followers will know that I treat a trip to Uwajimaya, our local Asian grocery store, as a photographic excursion.  Since their displays are always photogenic, I usually get something new!

This is a display of persimmons, a fruit that most Americans have heard of but never tried.  For some reason, they just look sour, and I think they are.  No two fruits are alike, and they are all jumbled together, but eye-catching.

That same trip, I found these fish.

It was easy to fill the frame with fish.

When out and about, I always keep my eyes on the sky for interesting cloud formations.  This one made me stop the car to get out and capture the unusual array of clouds.

And in my own backyard, I admire my Japanese Maple tree that turns this vivid red for only a few days in November each year.  I took this on Friday, and on Friday night there was a wind storm which blew off half the leaves.  Lucky shot!

One of our favorite places to visit was the Seattle Japanese Garden, and it has so many beautiful nooks and corners.

For some reason, I have always been fascinated with water, especially moving water.  It’s pretty easy to fill a photo frame with water.

The left photo is the North Pacific Ocean, taken on our Hawaii cruise in 2018.  The right photo is Puget Sound near the Edmonds Ferry Terminal.

Next, a frame-filling National Monument.  We were there on a picture-perfect day, with not a cloud in the sky.

Finally, one of our favorite backyard visitors.

We love our many Red-breasted Nuthatches who visit our suet feeder all year around.
