We Potterheads have been eagerly awaiting news on the Potter TV series starting production soon. We were encouraged to hear that JK Rowling had given it her blessing. We had hope that the studio would be able to refrain from using the DEI filter when casting the main characters. Below is the result for Hermione.

So today, we get this information about maybe the pivotal character in the entire canon (yes, Harry Potter’s universe has its canon), aside from Harry himself.
My opinion: Absolutely not! No way! The world has moved far beyond DEI casting, where the actual story is essentially abandoned, in service of wanting to assuage the White Guilt of the entertainment industry.
My husband has been watching the Foundation series on Apple TV, and they have made such a hash of it, with the story line shredded, and the majority of characters transformed to different race and sex. It is unwatchable! Daneel Olivaw the robot a woman?!! There might have been one black character in the original, but the cast of the TV is almost half black. Disgusting.

If you think this is bad, imagine how bad it would be if it was Disney. I imagine HBO will make a decent try at it, even if it falls flat in some respects. Also, over 10 years, its fairly likely there will be some change in the cast.
