Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #362: Sports and Games

I’m the world’s biggest klutz, so I don’t engage in many sports myself, but I have no problem watching, especially when the sport is squash. Hubby is a competitive squash player, and together we have been to many tournaments since we met in 2001. The farthest away we have been for a tournament is Vancouver, BC, where we have attended the Jericho Club summer tournament three times. The last time was a couple of years ago. Just last week in Bellevue, there was an invitational tournament at the Pro Club, where professional players came to show us their stuff. We had seats in the last row of bleacher seating, so we had pretty good sight lines, and we were actually seated right next to the referee. Unfortunately, we couldn’t see the part of the court nearest the door, which was blocked by spectators!

Both players are world-ranked, and Coll is the current World #1 player. I can’t think of a more-exciting sport to watch, and I find myself promoting it a lot. Here’s some video to give you an idea of how strenuous it is.

When we went to Vancouver in 2023, we caught a sailboat race from the Jericho Club, which is right on the water. The wind was very strong that day, perfect for the boats racing. Nobody was becalmed! And they had to be very careful not to get in the way of that bulk carrier so close.

I’ve been horse-crazy since I was a kid, and I have been lucky to watch some horse-racing at our local track. A few years ago, my company sponsored a day at the racetrack, and we watched the beautiful thoroughbred horses pound down the track.

See the horse on the far left-he has all four hooves off the ground.

I don’t play golf, but I actually like to watch it. Many think it’s boring (but baseball is more boring, in my opinion). In 2017, as part of my 50th high school class reunion, I went along on a golf outing with my classmates, as photographer. I rode around in the golf cart with a classmate whom I had never met in school! We had a glorious time, and I got to take pictures of players, and of the very beautiful course.

Sand trap, where no golfer wants to be

When we were in California a few years ago for a Hillsdale function, the hotel grounds had a golf course and a driving range. I just had to laugh at this part, which shows what people were doing.

At the local putt-putt golf course where my work department had our annual picnic, I thought these buckets made a nice still-life.

Here’s the Link to this week’s original post. And Tina’s too!
