Lens-Artists Photo challenge #363: Virtual Scavenger Hunt

This week’s subject is a trip through the Archives, to find photos on a number of themes. We were given the instruction to choose as many as 10 different themes, and find a photo that expresses it. Boy, that was a hard choice, as there were so many good ones to choose from.

For my first one, I chose Wavy Lines. This photo taken in Eastern Washington near the Columbia River, is a road through my favorite Shrub-Steppe terrain. The brown hills really set off the asphalt road, for a road you really want to follow. The road follows the contours of the hillside in a natural way.

For my next one I decided on Shadow. Shadows are one of my favorite subjects, and I am always on the lookout for interesting ones, especially after dark.

The surface here is the hood of my husband’s car, where a tree next a light standard cast the shadow of its branches on the car. It makes you blink your eyes, since it looks blurry, but it’s just the shadows of the many tree branches.

The next word I chose was “With a Design”. All of these old sewing machines in a clothing store window have a similar design, but every one is different. Back in the day, all sewing machines looked like this. Did your grandmother have on that looked like this? Mind didn’t, but my best friend’s granny did, and it was in their attic. It was operated with a foot treadle.

It wouldn’t be a trip through the archives without one that was Soft. Gotta get the softest thing in our house.

Kikyo, keeping me warm while I read

And here she is, the softest thing in our house, our black cat. She is 15 years old now, but her fur coat is as soft as a little mink. I can’t keep from petting her whenever she is within reach. Here I’m in my happy place, on my bed reading in the sunshine, and Kikyo is catching some zzz’s in her sun-puddle.

Since I am an avid art-glass fan, my next object is Glass. This one was really hard to choose, since I have so many!

I think this one captures the Essence of Glass. A simple water glass, with intriguing decoration. There are two different modes of decoration too, the swirls in the bottom section, and the obviously-applied beading to mark out the various sections. It all hangs together, and can keep your eye occupied for a significant amount of time. It’s pleasant to hold in your hand, too.

Finally, I chose an easy one, Water in it. I am fascinated by water, both moving and stationary. Having been on some cruises, I had ample time to photograph watery subjects.

This is some of the prettiest water you will see. Diablo Lake in the North Cascades of Washington, gets is blue-green color from glacial runoff. We visit the Overlook at least a couple of times a year.

Here’s the Link to this week’s Original Post. And Tina’s, too!
