Yay! It’s Black Cat Appreciation Day!

It’s the week of Halloween, and it’s time to appreciate our mini-panthers, our black cats who rule us, sit and purr in our laps, and shed black cat hair all over the house. I have had a black cat in my home for the last about 30 years (not the same one!). Our home would not be home without our little soft black furry owner (you never own a cat, they own you). Our current kitty, The Lady Kikyo, joined our family in July of 2010. Here she is on the day we brought her home from the NOAH Center shelter.

See, she’s already declaring that she rules the roost!

I picked her out at the shelter, because she had a regal look. This photo I think brings it out more than most others. She spent a good 15 minutes in this pose, watching birds outside the clerestory window to the side yard.

Here’s a more-recent photo, in her favorite position, curled up on the bed beside me while I read. At age 15, she is slowing down.

On X, I have been collecting fun cat cartoons and memes, many of them black cats. Here are some of my favorites. I purposely choose cartoons that look good here on my blog.

Our cats are pretty smart, and black cats are the smartest!

Online, I follow a number of cat accounts, obviously written and posted by their human servants. Here are a bunch of my favorites, all of whom I would love to meet in person (in cat?).

Meet Boots and Binx, “Bonded Bros” who live in England. They are constantly getting into fun situations, and their servant has a great sense of humor. Aren’t they gorgeous?

Rolf, University of Warwick Cat Ambassador

Rolfie goes around campus with his handlers and meets students and faculty every day. I look forward to his Rolf Reports, and his “Relax with Rolf” musical selections every Friday.

Here are some X posts for Black Cat Appreciation Day. Black cats get a LOT of support there!

Those two black cats are Oriental Shorthair cats, just look at those ears! George is a fun cat to follow, as he carries out his duties at the train station at Stourbridge Junction in England.

England has numerous cat protection societies all over the country. They have so many beautiful kitties to adopt!

Purr-in-Ink does the cutest black cats!

And finally, this guy is another one of my favorite ones to follow. He truly lives up to his name, doesn’t he? Chonk!

This cartoon cat, from the anime movie Kiki’s Delivery Service, speaks with a Brooklyn accent, and is so hilarious! Meet the Famous Witch’s Familiar, Jiji.

A very happy Black Cat Appreciation Day to everyone!
