Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #265: Black and White or Monochrome

It is so much fun, deciding which color photos to edit and make black-and-white.  I have a black cat, so I decided to start with a picture of her.  It’s not easy to photograph a black cat, since all their features tend to disappear.  What do you think?

That’s not a defect-on the left side of her face, she has a whisker that started out black, but is growing out white.

A couple of weeks ago, we went to Vancouver BC for my husband to play in a squash tournament.  On our way through downtown, I spotted this very unusual-looking building.  Those white structures are balconies, with the metal/concrete bending to form the balconies.  I just thought it looked really weird.

On our trip to Hillsdale College in 2010, we stopped at the Devil’s Tower National Monument in Wyoming.  It was a bright, sunny day, with a cloudless blue sky.

Just this past weekend, we stopped at our local Asian grocery store.  I just had to take a photo of this tray of fish.

Do they look better in color or black-and-white?

I have always enjoyed turning flowers and foliage from color to black-and-white.  Last weekend I stopped at a new outdoor shopping area on my way home, and found a planter which contained a plant I had never seen before, with nearly-white foliage.

And my very favorite has to be this rose, from a bouquet Hubby gave me for Valentine’s day in 2022.

  1. I absolutely love this post. I know how difficult it is to photograph a black animal. My dog is black and hates to have his picture taken. You did a great job. And, I love that building. What a find. As for the fish, they do look slightly better in color. Well done and thanks for participating.
