I am publishing this essay in its entirety, pithy, and in rhyme, to boot! It would be great if all of my followers would re-blog this.
They say truth will set you freeBut it is the opposite of what we seeThose whose crimes were concealedAre not punished when they’re revealedWhen their secrecy is unveiledThey are not the ones to be jailedIt is the brave who tell the truthIt is the journalist, the honest sleuthWho is charged with a crimeWho is faced with doing timeThe corrupt continue to be protectedTheir orders are followed as directedThe truth teller then is arrestedAnd the public again is misdirectedThe honest speaker faces judgmental eyesThe powerful are shielded by their liesThe helpless hero is to be demonizedWhile the culprit will be canonizedThis story repeats throughout historyYet it continues to remain a mysteryTo the overwhelming majority of mankindWho stumble through life deaf and blindAll this occurs under the guise of justiceBy the deceivers who say you must trust usLargely the people follow or look awayNot wanting trouble during their dayOccasionally wondering what is wrongBut the thoughts leave before longThe urge to avoid facing controversyOvercomes the inner voice for mercyThis is the tragedy of human existenceWhich can only be conquered by persistenceWe must confront our mental resistanceReplacing it with a resolute insistenceTo honor the truth as the ultimate guideFor increasing peace and prosperity worldwideIt is within our power to choose to beThe ones who will allow truth to set us free
Whereas Slick Willy (Bill Clinton) in his day was the master in the art of triangulating sides of political issues to arrive at some safe middleground for himself, Barack Obama displayed mastery in the art of misdirection, which is what this poem is about, and it is something we continue to live with every day. Misdirection is much worse than triangulation. There is almost no limit to the amount of evil that can be excused or hidden using misdirection. The public needs to be very discerning when politicians and institutions are using misdirection.
