Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #272: Billboards and Signs

I just love watching out for funny or original signs, and they seem to be just about everywhere.  In the 1980s, there was a popular TV series called Twin Peaks, that was filmed in the local town of North Bend, in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains.  The town takes full advantage of that little bit of fame.

This sign greets you on the way into town.  And the one below is on the wall of the Twin Peaks Cafe.

A sign of some creativity is the fairly new tendency of utilities decorating their formerly-gray or green transformer boxes.  I think they are sponsoring competitions among artists to come up with pleasing ways of disguising the controllers for their traffic lights.  This one is in Mill Creek, just south of my home.

This one is in Leavenworth.  Very Alpine!

And this one is in North Bend, not too far from the Twin Peaks Cafe.  How about a little history while you are waiting for the light to change?

Signs aren’t always fun or pleasant.  A couple of years ago, we went through a very unpleasant time in our country, where the government mandated that we wear masks over our faces everywhere.  Businesses in our state were required to make their customers cover their faces, and if people were caught maskless, the business could be fined or forced to close.

Let’s hope this never happens again.

I do have to say, that this place in North Bend has a very clever name.   See what they did with the sign?

Just recently, the town of Leavenworth re-painted the fronts of some of their buildings on the main street of town.  Those climbers look pretty real!  Let’s hope they don’t give thieves any bright ideas.

As far as restaurant signs go, I have to hand it to this place in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Along the lines of acrimonious signage, I recall a rock song from 1971, “Signs” including the line, “And the sign said, ‘Long haired freaky people need not apply.'” How much simpler life was.
