Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #313: Cool colors

Way back in the 1970s, a favorite phrase describing something you liked was “Cool, man!” Living in a place with abundant bodies of water, and the nickname of “Evergreen State”, you’d think that cool colors would be everywhere. You would be correct! Sometimes, though, you get too much of a good thing, with vegetation run rampant. After a pretty warm, dry summer, we long for more of that cool rain that greens up the grass.

Just recently, we did our favorite day trip, up to the Diablo Lake Overlook in North Cascades National Park. The lake is formed behind the Diablo Dam, and it is fed by glacial water from the Cascade Mountains surrounding. How about these cool colors?

The glacial-blue-green waters, green trees, bluish mountains and blue sky just surround you with cool colors!

A little closer to home, our Hydrangea was blooming in the backyard this June, and I think it’s hard to find a more-saturated blue color.

Also close to home is this blue spruce tree I found at a local shopping center. Evergreen, or Everblue?

Definitely a cool color combination, with the green branches.

Blue sky can be more noticeable, when there’s a contrasting color too. This thunder-cloud’s bright white makes you more aware of the blue sky behind it. This is Mammoth Lakes, California.

Remember, in 1492, Columbus sailed the Ocean Blue? The Pacific Ocean gets pretty blue!

Before we went on our cruise to Hawaii, I had never seen water this blue.

And just so the East Coast doesn’t feel left out…

This cool scene is Puget Sound, with Jetty Island, which is a big sand bar just off of the Everett waterfront.

The late-afternoon sunlight turns everything blue at Deception Pass Beach.

  1. Wonderful assortment of cool colors, Rushbabe! I’m glad I didn’t “steal an image” as I took virtually the same photo from Diablo Viewpoint a few years ago. That cool green lake is awesome!
