Is history repeating itself? Is South Africa becoming Zimbabwe?

When Apartheid ended in South Africa, a group called the African National Congress took over. The group had an agenda, and blacks got new rights, but the party was made up of a bunch of leftist groups with little governing experience. In fact, did you know that the sainted Nelson Mandela was a Communist? Well, he was. This article in (leftist) Wikipedia is actually quite explanatory of the ANC and its history, and I recommend it to readers.

Since the ANC took over in the 1990s, the economy of South Africa has suffered, since in its former state whites were better educated than blacks, and held most of the top jobs in all areas of the economy, including farming. Boer farmers, with a history going back over a century, were quite productive, and made South Africa the breadbasket of the continent. That situation has changed, since the communists making up most of the ANC were anxious to have their black compatriots take over all areas of the economy.

Now, the ANC-ruled government of South Africa has passed a new law, called the “Expropriation with Nil Compensation” into effect. My friend on X has explained it all for you very well.

I don’t know if my readers will remember what happened to Rhodesia when their newly-independent black rulers passed a similar law. Here is the very good explanation by Will Tanner.

And one more thing… This statistic might surprise you.

It seems to me that uneducated, communist parties are very good at destroying what experienced capitalist owners and farmers have built, in their power frenzy after gaining independence for their countries. Agriculture in both Russia and China suffered when the Communists took over, and only a measure of capitalism revived both countries’ economies.

As in the articles above, I fear that South Africa may be going down the same unfortunate path as Rhodesia did. It only takes a short time to destroy such thriving economies, but it can take decades to revive, once the destroyers have been defeated. What is ahead for South Africa is not going to be pretty, and people should keep in mind what they had. Blacks will not gain, and the entire population will be worse off.

Note that the Boers are descendants of the Duthc settlers. If you looks at the Netherlands today, it is one of the most productive farming countries in the world. (and of course the EU wants to shut down about 1/3 of it for “green” reasons).
