On Trump and Israel’s War with Iran

I admit, I was blindsided by the news early Saturday that the US and Israel had gone to war against the evil Ayatollahs of Iran. I was surprised and pleased to hear that they had eliminated Khamenei early on, and were taking care of other business later. I have mostly agreed with Robert Barnes that going to war with Iran was a very bad idea, and might have disastrous consequences both in the Middle East and politically in the US. So far, the Middle East consequences have been mostly beneficial. Here at home, people have been warning for a long time about the terrorists from the Middle East and Africa that the Biden regime invited in, and they have maintained that stance of vigilance for acts of terrorism being carried out here. More on that later.

First, here is some very intelligent commentary from sources who were and are active-duty military, and astute observers of the world and America. These are people I trust to give correct analysis. Please let me know what you think.

The most powerful warship ever built just disappeared. The USS Gerald R. Ford, 100,000 tons of nuclear-powered floating sovereignty carrying over 75 aircraft and a crew of 4,500, switched off its transponder and vanished from every public tracking system on earth. The most advanced aircraft carrier in human history is somewhere in the Eastern Mediterranean and the only people who know its exact coordinates are the ones giving the orders. When a carrier goes dark, it is not hiding. It is hunting. The Ford has been deployed for 241 consecutive days. If this operation extends through April it will become the longest carrier deployment since Vietnam. The US Navy does not break fifty-year records for deterrence. It breaks them for war.

And the Ford is not alone. The USS Abraham Lincoln holds station in the Arabian Sea with a second full carrier air wing, escort cruisers, and destroyers carrying enough Tomahawk cruise missiles to reshape the geography of Iran’s coastline. Two carrier strike groups. Sixteen warships confirmed in theater. 150 aircraft between them. 800 potential daily sorties. Forty to fifty percent of all deployable US airpower in the Middle East concentrated in two floating airbases that Iran cannot see, cannot track, and cannot reach. Now map the geometry. The Ford sits west of Iran behind Israel’s air defense umbrella. Any Iranian missile aimed at the Ford must first cross the most advanced integrated air defense network on the planet. The Lincoln sits south of Iran in the Arabian Sea, beyond the range of most Iranian ballistic missiles but within strike range of every target in southern Iran including the IRGC naval bases that would enforce any Hormuz closure. Iran is bracketed. West and south. Mediterranean and Arabian Sea. Two carriers that can launch simultaneous strikes from two axes while remaining in waters where Iranian retaliation has to cross through allied defense systems to reach them.

This is not a defensive posture. This is a kill box built from aircraft carriers. The Ford went dark because what comes next does not benefit from Tehran knowing the launch point. The F-22s already destroyed the air defenses. The first wave of strikes already hit the leadership. The IRGC already fired its retaliation and hit one civilian with debris. Iran announced Hormuz closure via VHF radio and the US Fifth Fleet did not respond with a statement. It responded by repositioning assets that make the IRGC navy’s entire order of battle obsolete. Iran threatened to close a 21-mile strait. America parked two aircraft carriers on either side of the country that borders it. The Ford did not disappear. The Ford stopped telling Iran where to look. Because the next thing Iran sees from that ship will not be a transponder signal. It will be the sky filling with aircraft. https://open.substack.com/pub/shanakaanslemperera/p/the-arithmetic-of-collapse-irans?r=6p7b5o&utm_medium=ios

Above is just one example of the resources the US brings to this battle.

We took an essential step today to put an end to the Islamic jihadist terror group known as Iran. They’ve been murdering innocents around the globe for 47 years. It ends today!

Despite what your corporate media will effort to tell you, the Middle East, to date, has been a cesspool of Arab angst, failed ideologies, democratic failures, poverty, human rights denials, and a base where terrorism and bloodshed are routinely launched against the West.

Looking back at decades of attacks on the U.S., Israel, and Western allies, the Middle East has not evolved much beyond the tribal conflicts over the thousands of years since Jesus Christ walked and talked. Despite a region that has untold riches with the oil revenues and the opulence that is now fully on display in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and Iran, the Middle East continues to be the epicenter of international terror, violence, false hope, and greed.

In my 20 years of service as a pilot in the United States Air Force, I spent many a day on duty in and out of the Middle East, whether in times of supposed peace or outright war. In all, I served in Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Yemen, Oman, Pakistan, and some places I shouldn’t really talk about. I’m left with my observations.

With the barbarism and savagery of Islamic jihadists and their attacks on innocent citizens around the globe, I’m reminded precisely why this region continues to be the world’s flashpoint. I’m astonished at the lack of knowledge and intentional manipulation of facts on the part of many Americans, predominantly leftists. I’m looking at you, American media, Muslim Brotherhood, AOC, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Hollywood, to name but a few.

The ignorance and willful blindness to the history of the region, the thousands of Americans killed over the years, and Iran’s sinister involvement in all of this is mind-blowing. Yes, the Iran that seized an American embassy under then-President Jimmy Carter, the Iran that birthed Hezbollah and the attacks on the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks in Beirut in 1983, the Iran that underwrites, trains, and supports Hamas, the same Iran that then-President Barack Obama sent pallet-loads of cash in unmarked jets to in the middle of the night, and the same Iran (the world’s largest state sponsor of terror) that former President Joe Biden (Obama’s Mini-Me) bequeathed in 2023 with another $6 billion.

But, on the left, the death of Khomeini and eliminating Iran nuclear weapons program has produced gnashing teeth and relentless attacks on President Trump and his administration.

The American left has crossed a line into disloyalty and subversive actions that undermine not only our national interests but those of our allies and fellow democracies. We especially see it in our universities, whose facilities are dominated by radicals who were born during the Vietnam War. We also see this subversion in our corporate media, which has become a critical tool for anti-American leftists and Islamofascists alike.

I’m laying down the truth, the reality of the evil that prevails in the region, from someone who has lived it from the American military perspective.

We are potentially on the verge of a global peace. Particularly as it pertains to the people of Iran and the Middle East in general. Let’s understand it and get behind it!

Mr. Patterson is one person I have great trust in, to tell the unvarnished Truth.

BREAKING: 52 MISSILES. ZERO IMPACT. Read that again. Fifty-two coordinated Iranian missiles launched at a United States Navy Carrier Strike Group. And they didn’t scratch the USS Abraham Lincoln. While an E-2D Hawkeye circled high above the Gulf of Oman… watching… scanning… calculating… the entire salvo was detected in its boost phase.

Under 40 seconds to classify the threats. Link 16 firing assignments transmitted. Aegis systems locked. Arleigh Burke destroyers engaged. Eight minutes later? Every. Single. Missile. Gone.

This is what American engineering looks like. This is what discipline looks like. This is what generations of sailors, radar techs, pilots, and fire control officers look like when it all works together. You don’t see panic. You see precision. Iran fired everything they had in that window. Anti-ship ballistic missiles. Medium-range ballistic missiles. Anti-radar missiles designed specifically to blind us.

And the shield held. Not because of luck. Not because of headlines. Because of training. Because of layered defense. Because the United States Navy does not improvise under pressure. While some talk… our sailors stand watch. While propaganda claims “successful hits”… American steel remains afloat.

This is not chest-thumping. This is gratitude. Thank you Jesus!

Gratitude for the young man at a console tracking inbound objects at Mach speed. For the Hawkeye crew circling in the dark. For the destroyer crews who executed flawlessly. For the families at home who carry the quiet burden of service. Fifty-two missiles. Zero impact. That’s not arrogance. That’s readiness.

Below is an opinion from another ex-military commenter who I trust very much.

RE: Some Random Thoughts About Iran and the Middle East I think many Americans have a very simplistic understanding of the Middle East, one that is seen through the prism of American broadcast news. It’s way more complex than that. In light of the ongoing actions in Iran, I thought I would share some impressions I have formed through the years, from living in/traveling across the Middle East, from being involved in US wars in the Middle East and from making friends with professional Persian-Americans in the law and in medicine. Much of what follows are my opinions only, so take them with a grain of salt. (I’m sure there will be some “scholars” to jump in and tell me I’m wrong.) Here goes:

1. Iranians generally practice Shia Islam and Gulf Arabs generally practice Sunni Islam. Think of it like the difference between Catholics and Protestants. Except with RPGs, 1960s Northern Ireland style.

2. Iranians are not Arabs. They are Persian. Genetically and culturally they are completely different groups of people.

3. The Gulf Arab countries are scared of Iran. I remember serving in Kuwait between wars with Iraq. I worked closely with the Kuwaiti military and government. Saddam and Iraq were still a threat. I recall that so many times a Kuwaiti official would tell me “We’re not really scared of Saddam attacking again. We’re scared of Iran.” They would say it in hushed tones, like “Don’t tell anybody.”

4. In America, we have become accustomed to thinking that the Middle East and Central Asia are populated solely by violent, illiterate goat herders. But Persia is an ancient civilization, with a true emphasis on advanced education. Persian-Americans are by and large professionals—doctors, lawyers, business owners, investors. They are patriotic Americans. Unlike Somalis in the US and Pakistanis in the UK, they did not come here to refuse to assimilate and impose 7th Century tyranny on our Constitutional Republic. These are people who love America and the opportunities it presents. The mullahs do not speak for the average Iranian, and the people we are trying to set free in Iran are far more like those Persian-American patriots than they are like some bacha-bazi practicing Afghani savage.

5. The general populations of the Gulf Arab states tend to have horribly propagandistic, antisemitic views of Israel snatched straight out of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Their leaders actually encourage this as a means of maintaining power. But at the same time, those leaders in places like Saudi Arabia and the UAE know that it is in their best interests to establish peaceful, full relations with Israel. Wealth and stability can occur by finally putting the Israeli/Arab conflict fully to rest. This is the reality of The Abraham Accords.

6. Iran is the leading sponsor of terrorism in the world, and especially in the Middle East. Without the Iranian mullahs, there would be no Hezbollah and no Hamas, and the endless Israeli/Palestinian conflict would gradually end, because the guys arming the Palestinians would no longer exist.

7. But those Iranian-sponsored wars against Israel are so very real, and the Iranians have been expert in using those wars to ensure Israel enjoys popular disdain. So long as Israel and the Palestinians are in armed conflict, the Gulf Arab countries cannot fully make peace with Israel.

So do the math. With the mullahs taken out, Iran can become Persia again—an educated, advanced member of the family of nations. The funding for terror groups dries up, and suddenly peace between Israel and the Palestinians becomes possible. With the Israeli/Palestinian conflict behind them, the Gulf Arab states can become true partners with Israel, and the worst forms of ongoing regional conflict become ancient history. Basically, given these cultural, historical and regional realities, a liberalized, peace-loving Iran will bring about Peace in the Middle East. Thanks to Donald Trump and the American military.

🇺🇸

Like I said, most of this is my opinion only. But if my opinion is right…. we’re entering a Golden Age.

In less than 24 hours most of the Islamic Republic’s leadership is dead, including their leader Khamenei, setting the stage for revolutionary forces in Iran to take their country back with little incident.

This is American military exceptionalism.

This is how it is supposed to be used against our enemies.

Trump didn’t deploy half a million soldiers.

Trump asked his experienced military decision makers to use speed, violence of action, and overwhelming force from air and naval assets to destroy a corrupt, murderous Islamic regime at the opportune time for the Iranian revolutionary forces to capitalize on the strikes.

No forever war.

Minimal boots on the ground.

Minimal risk to US service members.

We are the top military in the world, and we keep showing our enemies why.

The only people mad about this hate America.

This is peace through strength.

This is America

And now, for some history, for those of my readers who were “educated” in public schools that did not teach the truth about Iran.

THREAD: For 47 years, the Iranian Regime has been regularly targeting and killing Americans.

Here is a timeline of 50 plus examples of Iran hurting America and terrorizing the world.

1979: The Iranian regime took over the U.S. Embassy in Tehran resulting in a 444‑day hostage crisis.

1983: The Iranian regime provided material support to Hezbollah for the Beirut Marine barracks bombing that killed 241 U.S. service members.

1984: The Iranian regime’s proxy Hezbollah kidnapped CIA station chief William Buckley in Beirut. Buckley died in captivity.

1984: The Iranian regime’s proxy Hezbollah carried out the truck bomb attack on the U.S. Embassy annex in Beirut, killing 24.

I will now post the X thread, instead of copying out every single post. This is a great enumeration of the attacks against the West by Iran since the 1970s.

Next, a couple of posts from Iranians in America. One is an explication, the other is an eyewitness report.

If Iran finally gets liberated it truly will be Karmic rebalancing.

The 7000 year old civilization of Persia was doomed the moment that Islam ravaged it. The history of Iran after Islamic conquest was a bloody saga of murderous genocide, oppression, misery and massacre. Every vestige of Persia’s original culture was forcibly erased by the sword to ensure Islam’s domination

When the Muslim army first saw the vast library of Ctesiphon, the commander Saad ibn-e Abi Vaghas, asked Caliph Omar what to do with the books. Omar’s reply sealed the fate of Persian knowledge:

“If the books contradict the Koran, they are blasphemous and if they are in agreement with the Koran, then they are not needed, as for us only Koran is sufficient.”

With that, the huge library was destroyed and knowledge systems of generations of Persian scholars were burnt to ashes or thrown into the Euphrates. Millennia of science, philosophy, medicine, poetry and literature were erased in the pillage.

Irreplaceable libraries of Khwarezmia, Ray, Khorassan & many others were burned to the ground, world famous universities like Gondishapour were decimated, and scholars butchered like flies. A civilization that once rivaled Greece and India in learning had its soul ripped out by a swarm of fanatic beasts.

Genocidal massacres became state policy. Entire cities were wiped out, captives hanged by the millions, women and children sold in slave markets, and Zoroastrians taxed into submission under the jizya system.

Those who converted weren’t welcomed – the Muslims branded them as Mawali, “freed slaves,” barred from all dignity or rights. The Persians were called Ajam, “mute” in a horrifying testimony to their complete powerlessness and erasure of their language, identity, and existence. By the order of Yazid ibn-e Mohalleb in Gorgan so many Persians were beheaded that their blood mixed with water would power the millstone to produce as much as one day’s meal for him.

One Umayyad Caliph even stated, “Milk the Persians, and when the milk runs dry, suck their blood.” This was not a clash of empires – it was a scorched-earth murderous crusade to crush an ancient civilization and rewrite history under the banner of Muslim victory. Persia wasn’t just conquered. It was gagged, gutted, and ground into the desert. And the smoke that rose from its burning books marked the silence that has lasted for centuries even till today.

The Iranian people deserve freedom from the Ayatollahs of the Islamic regime.

The original Persia deserves to live again.

Yesterday I posted from the deepest place in my heart — the same window in Tehran where a terrified three-year-old boy once stood smelling burning tires in 1979.
I prayed for the Israeli and American warriors. I said the regime that gouges eyes, hangs teenagers, cheers October 7, and murders its own people simply needs to go. I said the fever of 1979 was breaking and that the dawn of 2026 was here.

Today I woke up to a world without Ali Khamenei.

One of the men who stole my childhood, who turned Iran into a prison of fear and darkness, is gone. The head of the snake has been cut off. Over forty top regime figures — gone in a single night of precise, righteous justice. The IRGC’s palaces are burning. Their aura of terror is dust. The same eyes that once stared at us with absolute power are now wide with panic.

And still — I do not celebrate death. I celebrate life.

I celebrate the possibility that my ancestral people, the real Iran, can finally breathe.

To every Israeli pilot and American service member still in the skies or on the ground:
Thank you does not feel big enough.
I am on my knees today praying for you again — that every one of you returns home safely to the families waiting with open arms. You did not come as conquerors. You came as liberators. You answered the silent prayers of millions who have whispered “enough” since the day they took my country. History will remember your courage as the moment the region began to heal.

To my brothers and sisters inside Iran right now — hiding phones under pillows, hearts racing with every explosion, risking everything just to read these words:
Hold on. The end is not coming. The end is here.

The regime is leaderless, fractured, and suffocating. They know the math has changed forever. The little boy who stood in that window with fear is speaking to the little boys and girls hearing those same sounds tonight in Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz:

This time the explosions are not closing the window.

They are flinging it wide open.

You will not grow up under black flags and morality police.

You will grow up with music, laughter, makeup if you want it, books and Internet that are not censored, and a future that belongs to YOU — not to some 7th-century ideology that hijacked our 2,500-year civilization.

I have lived the stolen life so you would not have to.

Today I feel your hope crashing over me like a wave. The diaspora is roaring. Israelis are standing with us. Americans are standing with us. The free world is watching and cheering.

The road ahead will have bumps. Transitions always do. But the direction is unmistakable: a secular, prosperous, free Iran is no longer a dream whispered in basements. It is becoming the new reality on the streets.

The fever is not just breaking.
The fever has broken.
And the patient — Iran herself — is waking up.

Thank you, Israel.
Thank you, America.
The real Iran will never, ever forget what you did for us.

To the new three-year-old at the window in Tehran tonight:

Close your eyes, little one.
When you open them again, the explosions and smoke will be gone.
You will hear birds. You will hear music.
You will hear freedom.

The dawn of 2026 is not coming.
It is here.

And this time, the light wins.

With tears of joy heavier than any fear I have ever known.

The Iranian people’s voice is finally louder than the regime’s lies.

Let’s keep it that way.

The Iranian Diaspora is celebrating in the streets, all over the world, including America.

Some background you perhaps did not know.

I remember vividly when Iran blew up our Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. It was October 23, 1983, and I was a newly trained second lieutenant C-141 pilot based at Charleston AFB, SC.

My wing put my crew and I immediately into “Alpha Alert” requiring the crew and aircraft to be airborne in an hour or less. We talked as a crew and we, to a man, knew we would fly to Beirut and bring our Marines home. In flag draped coffins.

We were crushed. We were devastated. A foreign government had killed 241 US personnel. It was a tremendously sad feeling. There was none of the usual crew banter and jokes as we preflighted the jet. It was quiet as we went to work. Deathly quiet.

I went to our command post to get our flight plan. The sun was just setting in Charleston. A colonel handed it to me and I took a quick glance. Mostly looking for our required fuel load and the flying time.

Wait. This wasn’t right. The destination wasn’t Beirut. It was Fort Bragg, NC. I asked the colonel if this was correct?

He said, “Oh, you’re not going north, you’re going south. They’ll fill you in when you get to Pope.”

So, we took off and headed to Pope totally in the dark literally and figuratively. We were reeling from the loss of our brothers in arms overseas and we wanted to repatriate them!

When we arrived at Pope, we were immediately taken aside and briefed. Extensively. We were going to war and we were taking the 82nd Airborne to drop them at Point Salinas, Grenada. It was Operation Urgent Fury, my first combat, and all of sudden we were energized! A crusty Army sergeant major pulled me aside as they were boarding. “Hey LT, just get me down there. I’ve got a silver bullet in my gun for the first commie bastard I see!”

I almost hugged him! We were going to inflict violence on bad guys.

I admit I felt a little guilty. I wanted to take out my hurt and sadness on someone! My sorrow had been immediately replaced with a burning need for revenge.

I also feel like that’s exactly what has happened to Iran. It took us a little while but for my Marine brothers in Valhalla, we got your back, boys. Rest in peace and Semper Fi!

And here in America, have sleeper cells begun to awaken?

I am still on the fence about the new war on Iran. They are fighting back with cyber-warfare, since we seem to have destroyed most of their war-fighting weapons. I will wait and see, but my sense is that President Trump and President Netanyahu of Israel made the right decision.

By the way, there is actually some humor in this war-there has to be!
