Hey, Washington Governor Inslee! Shut down the State for the entire month of April?

How, pray tell, do you expect the government of Washington to operate with no tax receipts?  In case you hadn’t noticed, the State runs on Sales Taxes and the B & O tax on all businesses, large and small, regardless of profits.  No receipts, no revenue.

What happens when the revenue stops?  How many government employees will be laid off?  How many government offices will close?

I’m waiting.  Answer my questions.

This Used to be My City..Welcome to 21st Century Seattle

This Used to be My City..Welcome to 21st Century Seattle

I have lived in Everett, 20 miles north of Seattle, for eighteen years.  Each passing year makes me happier that I moved out of Seattle.  There are constantly stories in the local media demonstrating how the cost of living in Seattle has increased so much it is pricing residents out.  People who live in Seattle most of their lives cannot afford to live there when they retire.   The median price of a house in Seattle is approaching a Million Dollars.  Average rents on apartments in the city are over $1,000 per month, and going higher.  The city has such a large population that it basically runs the state.  Things Seattle wants are imposed upon the entire state, or on Western Washington.  Sound Transit III has imposed new property taxes, sales taxes, and car-tab taxes on most of the surrounding area, when the “choo-choo-train” won’t reach out of Seattle for many years.  I especially resent having to pay for something that I will NEVER use, ever.  But that train is already killing people!

Then, there’s the crime problem, and the “homeless crisis”.  Many neighborhoods in Seattle, and even cemeteries, are being overrun with homeless encampments.  Those eyesores leave behind used needles and other drug paraphernalia, and piles of garbage and human excrement.  “Community Fed Up as Homeless Campers Turn Cemetery Into Dumping Ground” appeared in the local press today.  The city has approved homeless people living in their cars and RVs around the city, and that too brings crime and drugs into neighborhoods.  And the Seattle Police have stopped responding to property crimes, just telling residents who are burglarized to submit their claims online.  That is sick.

Speaking of drugs, nearly two years ago, Seattle and King County approved the establishment of so-called “Safe Injection Sites”, where users of (illegal) injectable drugs could come and shoot-up under the supervision of licensed medical personnel.  Just imagine, legal, illegal Heroin Dens, right in Seattle for the convenience of junkies everywhere!  By the way, community residents attempted to get a ballot measure approved, so the residents of Seattle and surrounding areas could have a say in this matter, and a judge determined that the People had NO SAY in whether there might be an addict-attractor in their neighborhood!  Apparently, those who live in Seattle have been deemed not competent to run their own locality.  Since, at last count, heroin remains a federal ILLEGAL DRUG, and opening a legalized heroin den would be subject to Federal law-enforcement, once a heroin den opens, lawsuits are sure to follow.  Per a local TV station, the city still has not decided on a location for their site, and some council members are getting antsy. Hey, I have a great idea-how about locating the first one in Councilwoman Debora Juarez’s neighborhood!  She’s so keen on it, she should be able to watch it work.

Next week is the last week of April, and you know what that means.  May Day.  Seattle, each year, is the home of large May Day “demonstrations” and “protests”, which are, in reality, riots.  Downtown Seattle merchants are forced to hire increased security, and sometimes board up their windows, to guard against the near-certain destruction by the known “Antifa” thugs.  And the Seattle Police stand by and let it happen.  Cars and businesses are trashed, at owners’ expense, so the anarchists can demonstrate their power.

SPD-Mayday

Seattle is the home of Amazon.com, and the City Council just can’t stop coveting their wealth.  The latest bright idea thought up by the social justice warriors that govern (?) the city is a “head tax” to be levied on employees of the largest companies with employees in the city.  They want to collect a tax PER HOUR for every employee of a company making more than $20 million.  You know this is aimed directly at Amazon.  They say that the tax is expected to bring in up to $75 million a year, to be used for the homeless crisis.  Obviously, the City Clowncil has never heard of the law of economics that says the whatever you tax, you get LESS of.  They just think that companies will sit still and let themselves be taxed for the Privilege of locating in Seattle.  I wonder how the people who run Russell Investments and Weyerhaeuser, who just moved their offices into Seattle, will like this big new tax on their employees?

This is no longer my city.

A Short ECON101 Lesson about Taxes

A Short ECON101 Lesson about Taxes

Right now, the US Congress is hashing out a “tax reform” set of bills intended to change the ways taxes are confiscated from American workers and savers.  Those on the Left often refer to “tax cuts for the rich”, showing their basic envy of people who actually EARN their livings in the real world.  Republicans, in the majority in both the House and Senate, and in possession of the White House, consider it their responsibility to reduce the tax burden on working and saving Americans.

The concept of “revenue neutrality” was originated by Democrats who are horrified at the thought of Government receiving one fewer cent of its lifeblood from those Americans who pay income taxes (currently just slightly over 50% of Americans).  A young member over at Ricochet opines that the current tax scheme MUST be “revenue neutral”, as the Federal Government is already overdrawn on its accounts and can’t tolerate any reduction in its “income”.

That is not true, and here’s why.

Reductions in Tax Rates, especially for high-earners, always result in more revenue for the government (small and large business owners keep more of their earnings, add employees to their payrolls, and create more taxpayers). Why is this so hard for people to understand? This is Econ 101. And why, oh why, should the all-mighty Government not shrink? Why can’t waste be eliminated from all levels of Government? The less Government confiscates from your paycheck, the more you have to spend, and save!

The problem is that those in Government do not trust their fellow Americans, who pay their salaries from their own legitimate earnings, to know how to allocate their own money. “Revenue Neutral” is a crock!

State of Washington to Taxpayers: All your money are belong to us.

State of Washington to Taxpayers: All your money are belong to us.

As usual, the latest session of the Washington State Legislature (third “special” session) has found ways to forcibly extract more of their hard-earned money from taxpayers.  Yes, to your ostensible “representatives”, all you are is a bottomless source of funds for them to spend (waste?).  And when a small tax reduction was attached to the latest state budget (reducing the gross-receipts “Business and Occupation” tax for all manufacturers, not just The Boeing Company), the governor VETOED it, appalled that it would COST THE STATE money!  The implied sentiment here is that all the money earned by corporations and state residents is assumed to belong first the Government, and any money they let you keep from your paycheck, costs the state those funds.  See how it works?  Here are some of the things the WA legislature did to reduce your disposable income.

They voted into law a Paid Family Leave act.  Each week, you will pay about $1.42, and your employer will pay $2.42. Which isn’t strictly true, since your employer doesn’t pay any tax, they just reduce your earnings by that amount.  Kiss future raises goodbye.  Anyone too old to have children, or single, or with no family, will now be paying, every week, for leave for those who do.  Older people staying in the work force may decide that this is not a good thing for them, and decide to retire now rather than later.

The Government created a New Agency to handle matters dealing with children and families.  Yes!  Another new agency, which will have to be staffed with political appointees, and over-paid staff who earn pensions that taxpayers will be paying, and paying, and paying for.  And if you follow the news from the state of Washington at all, you know that the current Department of Social and Health Services is a wreck, leaving vulnerable elderly and foster children in abusive homes, and paying out millions of dollars in settlements to relatives of those neglected people when they sue the state.

They increased the toll on the Highway 520 Floating Bridge in Seattle by 5%.  They also made the toll 24 hours, where before it was not collected between 11PM and 5AM.  And you can bet that, even when the new bridge is paid off, that toll will still be collected, in perpetuity.

The State Property Tax was raised, to pay for Government Education.  In reality, it gives raises to teachers who are not under-paid, and increases the amount paid to the Teachers Union.  WA residents will now pay about $243 MORE per year on a $300,000 home.  In Seattle, the median home price is now over $500,000, so the state will be taking even more from those suckers, to pay for a local school system that is falling apart.  And only a fraction of that money ever goes to classrooms-most of it goes to administrators (and for programs like White Privilege and Sexual Identity education).

They added Sales Tax to bottled water.  With sales taxes approaching 10% now, that’s a tidy chunk of change.  They have deemed that online retailers, even those with NO presence in the state, will now be required to collect and remit to the state sales taxes on all purchases.

They raised the salaries of public employees and teachers.  Higher salaries lead to higher pensions when those people retire, often at an earlier age than the poor souls who are paying their salaries.  Due to increased taxes on employers in the state, you ordinary folk will be paid less, and forgo future raises.  Don’t blame that on your  employer, blame it on Jay Inslee and the Democrat-dominated legislature.

And you can kiss your disposable income goodbye.  Perhaps they should simply confiscate all the earnings of state residents, and just give us an allowance to live on.  Since “all your money are belong to us”.

Thoughts on the Midterm Election…and After

Thoughts on the Midterm Election…and After

Most of the votes are counted.  Winners and losers have been declared.  All day yesterday, and most of today, I’ve been projecting into the future, what yesterday’s election results mean.    Many Democrats went down to defeat yesterday, as did the majority of libertarians running as such (Michael Medved likes to call them “losertarians”).  Stalwart Republican Governors like Rick Scott of Florida, Rick Snyder of Michigan, Paul LePage of Maine, and Scott Walker of Wisconsin held off their lowlife Democrat challengers, and will now have the next four years to continue to implement their policies of greater freedom and lower taxes for their constituents.  Since Scott Walker in Wisconsin did away with automatic union dues withholding for teachers, their unions have lost up to half of their members (whose dues support Democrat candidates), and school districts that were in debt and doing poorly are running surpluses.  In New York, Andrew Cuomo will have a mandate to increase taxes on his “golden goose” financial-industry bigwigs.  I wonder when they will finally have had enough, and decamp en-masse for Florida (which has no income taxes, and a much nicer climate).

I hope this election finally puts to rest the Democrat lie of the Republican “war on women”.  How about Mia Love, the black woman from Utah, who won election to the House of Representatives.  How about Saira Blair, elected to the House from West Virginia, at age 18!  How about Janet Nguyen and Young Kim, elected to the California legislature (which is 100% in Democrat control).  How about Senators Joni Ernst of Iowa, and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia.  Republicans can’t be undertaking a war on women, because they ARE women!

Many of us conservatives out there are gloating, at least for a while.  But just having R’s in control of Congress does not guarantee that we can push back the tides of socialist decline in our country.  The next Congress will have some huge projects to get to.  Like repealing all or part of Obamacare, stopping the higher minimum-wage, fighting back against the president “pen-and-phone” declaration of amnesty for millions of illegal aliens (which is guaranteed to come), repealing many of the cuts to the defense budget, and enforcing our southern border to stop more illegals from crossing.  They will have their work cut out for them, big-time.

Here is what I want the Republicans to do (good luck with that!):

Fight Obama on every front.  No compromise!  No yielding on our principles!

Pass smaller spending bills to fund the important things, like the VA, Defense, and the CDC.

Stop the Executive Branch from tearing down our allies, and courting our enemies.  Support the State of Israel in every way possible.

Get control of the EPA bureaucracy, and STOP the war on coal, which is still a vital part of our energy mix.

Approve the Keystone Pipeline, which can create thousands of “living-wage” jobs.

Repeal Obamacare.

STOP TRASHING OUR BASE-LISTEN TO AND WORK WITH THE TEA PARTY, because we are the future.

Begin the process of eliminating the Department of Education in its entirety.  Reduce the peoples’ taxes in the entire amount of their budget.

Enact tax reform, so the people who make this country work can be free to invest their money their way, and save for their own retirement.

Stop the Bureau of Labor Statistics from grossly understating the real unemployment rate in the US.  No more doctored figures!

Quit taking abuse from the mainstream press.  Start fighting back against their lies and mis-information campaigns, and refuse to answer their leading questions-point out what they are really doing.  And take this fight to the public, all day every day.

And most importantly of all, DEFEAT THE LIMBAUGH THEOREM BY TYING OBAMA’S NAME TO ALL HIS DESTRUCTIVE POLICIES.  MAKE IT ABUNDANTLY CLEAR JUST WHO IS DESTROYING OUR GREAT COUNTRY.

I want the next two years to be the Obama Administration’s worst nightmare.  And our finest hour.

The Internal Revenue Service is Now a Political Organization

And you had better watch out!  Since the OTL Administration took power in 2009, they have used their admittedly left-leaning minions inside the agency (whose sole purpose is supposed to be managing and collecting taxes paid by individuals, business, and organizations and remitted to the US Treasury) to go after their political opponents.  Right now, you may think that, since YOU are not a Tea Party group, or a conservative PAC, that you have nothing to fear from an IRS who knows EVERYTHING about your life (whom you work for, how much you earn, what charities you support, whether you own your own home, where you live and bank, etc.).  Well, you have another think coming.  This past week, Lois Lerner, the former head of the IRS office that deals with tax-exempt groups (including, by the way, not only conservative political groups, but big UNIONS) again refused to testify in front of a Congressional Committee about her and her agency’s activities that suppressed and delayed the applications for non-profit, tax-exempt status of conservative groups ahead of the 2012 election.  And she has basically made herself more powerful than the Representatives of YOU, the PEOPLE of the United States of America.

On my other favorite site, Ricochet, Clark Judge just posted this.  It’s a possible answer.

It’s Tax Season again, and when you file your taxes this year, remember that YOU may become a target at any time.  The Democrat Party does not simply disagree with their opponents, they try to DESTROY them.  Read THIS and weep.  Now, the IRS has promulgated new rules for “social welfare” organizations that codify the suppression that they engaged in in 2012 and earlier.  There were more than 100,000 comments submitted, the majority of them opposed to such rules.

Wait, and watch……  And be VERY afraid!

What would YOU cut?

Since the wimps in Congress refuse to see the writing on the wall and stop massive government spending that cannot be sustained, place yourself in the driver’s seat. What would you cut, in toto, right now, from the Federal Government budget?
I would start with the Department of Education. Every last employee would be fired tomorrow, and the entire department shut down. Every penny of their budget would be returned to taxpayers, now, on a per-capita basis.
Next would be the Department of Energy. Same deal as above, except their budget would be returned to all the energy companies in the US who provide fossil fuels to run our economy, based on the corporate taxes they paid the past five years.  Also deleted would be all regulations that hold back domestic drilling and pipeline construction.
