The Wuhan Coronavirus Pandemic, which originated in Communist China and was spread world-wide by Chinese people allowed to leave the “infection zone” in January, has meant that people everywhere have been advised (and sometimes required by Government Edict) to wear “face-coverings” whenever outside their homes. The Almighty CDC has gone both ways on when and whether ordinary citizens should be wearing face-masks. Early in the pandemic, they said that it was useless for people other than medical workers directly interacting with patients to wear a mask, as they don’t protect the wearer from viruses.
Later on, they reversed course, and said that masks were advised when indoors and in proximity to others. It’s like watching a tennis game, being jerked one way and then another by the Medical Establishment, on whether you should or should not be wearing a mask. We now have squads of self-styled Civilian Enforcers keeping watch on outdoor trails, calling the Government when they spot a jogger or cyclist not wearing a mask! We have turned into a society of snitches, a mini-Stasi of neighbors informing on their neighbors.
The Press in their reporting, have made this virus into a deadly killer, and convinced everyone that this killer is lying in wait for everyone just around the next corner. However, the published statistics tell another story. Even at its worst, the Wuhan Coronavirus might kill 5-6% of those who contract it, and the majority of deaths have been of people over 70 years and in long-term-care facilities. Our Government Ruled that the Economy of the US must Shut Down, so the virus would not spread. We shut down, but the virus still spread. Millions of jobs lost, and businesses ruined, for Nothing.
MANIFESTO
As for me, I hereby refuse to be afraid of my neighbors, coworkers, and everyone else in my environment. I will not make the invalid assumption conveyed by wearing a mask: that everyone I meet is a potentially deadly carrier of the new virus, and might infect me with the virus. I will not comply with any government mandate that I go abroad in the world wearing a covering over my face. Mask-wearing is a way to make the United States not only a “low-trust” society but a NO-trust society, and I will not participate. I value my face, and others’ faces, and when I smile at someone, I want to see them smiling back at me, which is impossible while wearing a mask.
And when I see pictures of crowded Asian cities full of people wearing masks, I think about how much I value my individuality and my liberty and my face (borrowed with permission from a Ricochet friend). I claim my individual liberty, and I will take my chances on contracting the Wuhan Coronavirus. So far, I have not (tested negative last Friday). I will take my chances in life, and I will take the consequences. NO MASK FOR ME.
Great article .
