First, we have the Mayor’s attempts to ban the use of natural gas in Seattle for space- and water-heating in Seattle, due to “excessive greenhouse gas emissions”. There is a “Climate Disaster” happening, and we need to make sure that no new Seattle homes or other buildings use natural gas for heating.
The newly-announced legislation from Durkan would seek to limit the use of natural gas in newly-constructed large multi-family buildings and commercial construction. The hope is to reduce the city’s overall carbon emissions, and combat an ongoing climate crisis.
Just over half of Seattle homes use natural gas for heating, and more and more are using gas for cooking. In the far past, Seattle used to have the cheapest electricity of any major city, due to the hydro-electric power generated by dams in the state. Not any more, since Seattle and surrounding places have moved to more-renewable sources of power, like wind and solar (in a place that gets less sunlight than most places). Seattle residents have voluntarily paid more for their power, when they are assured they are helping “save the planet” from its “climate crisis”.

The only thing not said in this article is how Durkan wishes those buildings and homes to be heated. Does she wish the residents of Seattle to freeze in the dark? Maybe.
Next, on the Covid front, there is a frantic article about how Seattle and King County are facing very scarce resources to distribute the new Covid vaccine that could be coming later this month. Employees of the Health Departments whine about not having enough personnel available to distribute the vaccine or to give the vaccine to all the health care workers and first responders. They need more money! More people! However:
King County gives the Convention Center a 100 Million Dollar loan. Did anyone notice that there haven’t been any conventions for a year, and may not be any conventions for years to come? How can you have conventions, which are large gatherings of strangers, if they aren’t allowed by the “health authorities”? Convention Center expansion in peril as Pandemic Decimates Tourism. So that $100M could have gone to the Health Department for vaccinations.
And then, Seattle/King County are still exploring “safe injection sites” so those addicts can shoot up under government supervision. I suggest you click on the links in the article for more information.
Sigh… Can you get any stupider? Is it any wonder that we are exploring moving to another state?
It is really quite lovely here in MT during June, July and August, most of the time, and propane is available to heat your home. We would love to have you.
