Yes, it’s that time of year, when even we old folks go to the Washington State Fair in Puyallup. We got a late start on Saturday afternoon, but we made good time getting there, and had lots of time to walk around the grounds, see the animals, eat food, and go on a ride. It was a pretty nice day, overcast but warm, and not too warm. Just right!
Since eating is one of my husband’s most important reasons for going to the fair, we stopped to get some food. I wasn’t quite in the mood, so he bought some barbecue. Here’s the first shock of the day. We are somewhat used to the inflation happening since Biden was “elected” president, but this list really shocked me.

Hubby had a sandwich. Ouch!
I also got a kick out of the sign at another food booth we passed on our way around the fairgrounds. Can you spot what’s wrong with this sign?

Ugh! Someone was the product of the public school system.
Around the corner from the food booth, we came upon the booth that must be a kid’s hands-down favorite (other than the rides) at the state fair. Do your kids like this?
Speaking of kids, I have been horse-crazy since I was a kid, and we always head for the horse barns first. This year was no exception. I started with the Draft Horses. It’s too bad you can only see them from behind, but these two Percherons were polite enough to stand at an angle, so I could get both of them in the picture. These were the original “destriers”, war horses ridden by medieval knights in full armor.

On the way down, we were delighted to see this parade of young people on their horses.

Just a group of happy youths, on their well-cared-for horses.
After I had gone through the draft horse barn, I went to visit the 4-H Horses, and their young owners. Many of them were heading out to their competition.

I have always loved Appaloosa horses!
Next, we went to the livestock barns, and we saw some beautiful Black Angus cattle.

Definitely a group of contented cows!
Our last stop for the day was the rides. The only ride I will go on is this one, and we had a wild ride, as usual.

As we were walking around, we witnessed the beautiful sunset. We are just now getting some of the wildfire smoke from the mountains, and that makes for some spectacular sunsets.
