Scenes from the backyard

We have had a stretch of pleasant weather lately, and I have spent some time in the yard, refilling the bird feeders and standing around watching and listening. Here are some of the highlights.

Also notice the solitary yellow flower. A coworker gave me the plant as a retirement present, and I planted it outside. I hope it will flower more in the spring.

At one point last weekend, we had a whole family scavenging under the seed feeder-mom, dad, and a juvenile. The little guy was bouncing and running all over the yard.

Here’s the Main Attraction.

Get those contortions!

The Jay hasn’t figured out how to use the tail-rest like the woodpeckers do, and even the chickadees have learned. He figured out a way to get at the suet, but he has to keep resetting his grip as he slides down the pole.

Happy Autumn, friends!
