Well, Seattle, You Asked For It! Socialist elected Mayor.

Last week’s election was what normally happens in Western Washington. Since most elections in Seattle are between Leftists, and all-mail balloting, the vote counts take over a week, and even if the less-left candidate is in the lead after a couple of days, miraculously the farthest-left gains the most new votes (like close to 100% of the late ballots), and wins the election. It took a week for Socialist candidate Katie Wilson to win, but her lead lengthened every day, and the current Mayor Bruce Harrell conceded.

Wilson has waster NO time claiming victory and laying out her dreams for Seattle. Below are some very good comments by local radio host Ari Hoffman and others.

Her wealthy east-coast academic parents have been paying her rent for years, so we see that she has never owned her dwelling, and her dislike of landlords will be guiding her housing policies.

So you get the idea. Seattle voters are about to get what they voted for, good and hard.

Some additional commentary:

In her own words. Believe her.

As Todd Myers said above, Good Luck, Seattle. You are about to get exactly what you voted for.

Now, for some additional commentary from national media about what Seattle has initiated by electing a socialist as their Mayor. Once again, Seattle makes the national news for all the wrong reasons.

You really do need to read the rest of this post, and the comments. For those of you not on X, here’s a little taste.

Her husband doesn’t work, her parents pay $2200 a month for her healthcare and paid her Oxford student loan for dropping out six weeks before graduating. Way to pick a winner Seattle! Her platform says the quiet part out loud: • Massive public-housing expansion paid for by higher taxes on homeowners and businesses • A city-level capital gains tax to replace federal funds cut under Trump • Permanent renter protections that make it nearly impossible to evict violent or destructive tenants • “Non-police” response teams while violent crime is already 20–30% above pre-COVID levels.

And, finally, “Fall of Seattle” edition.

I will be interested to see exactly what mechanism the new mayor uses to force unprofitable grocery stores to remain open. She hates the police, so I don’t see her using them to keep the stores open at gunpoint. Failing that, how does she plan to compel unpaid labor? Is she going to deploy therapists, or perhaps empower NGOs to make Safeway clerks remain at their posts?

    1. Ha! Very good question. Maybe her new, farther-left city council will pass a law requiring them to stay open. If they try that, lawsuits will fly, so her new farther-left city attorney will have her hands full from Day One. Little Katie will soon discover that she can’t rule by decree. I predict temper tantrums.
