Beauty and Frustration in the Yard

This afternoon, I did some work in my yard, cleaning out and refilling the birdbath and refilling the seed feeder for all our little birds that come by. But before I went out, I just happened to be looking out the glass door, and saw a very fun sight.

Yes, it’s our entire Red-breasted Nuthatch family. Mom, Dad, and Fledgling, chowing down on the hot-pepper suet.

That was the Beauty. And below is the Frustration part. Next door, there is a mini-forest with tall cedar trees and some alders. There are numerous birds in there, and it is frustrating to be able to hear them, but never see them! I got out my Merlin Bird ID app, and recorded.

Of all those four birds, only ONE has actually been seen in the yard! This is mightily frustrating, since I had no idea that any but the song sparrow were there at all. The sparrows come to the seed feeder occasionally, and I have taken their pictures. I guess I need to find a “trail cam” to set up outside to see if I can capture any of the others actually in the yard.
