If this isn’t on the way, I don’t know what is! The Grand Canyon from 20,000 feet, on the way home from Phoenix in 2014.
…and, for that matter, like most big Liberal groups and organizations.
If someone disagrees with them, or seems to threaten them in any way, they try to (and sometimes do) destroy them. They can’t simply write an op-ed in the New York Times or Washington Post. No, they undertake boycott campaigns against businesses which deny their services to same-sex “weddings” [see, Arlene’s Flowers and Memories Pizza]. They put up Facebook pages devoted to such boycotts (yes, there is really a Facebook page entitled Boycott Arlene’s Flowers, which I will not link to). They file lawsuits, the intent of which is to drive out of business Christian small firms like the flower shop, bakery, and photographer who dare to not serve ceremonies which violate their religious beliefs. They drive CEOs of tech companies out of their jobs, for supporting the peoples’ initiative affirming traditional marriage as the norm.
The homosexual activists’ latest target is the Boy Scouts of America. For quite a while, the news has been of the strife within and outside of the BSA, relating to their rules against homosexual male leaders. The homosexual lobby will not be appeased until the Boy Scouts, the majority of whose troops are sponsored by churches, agree to admit homosexual scouts and leaders. Since this would violate the scouts’ pledge to remain “morally straight”, it puts the national and local leadership into quite a bind. One of my fellow Ricochet members put it this way “The BSA fears the anger of the gay lobby more than it fears the anger of its membership and the churches”. Yes, many parts of society these days fear the anger of the homosexual lobby.
Almost as much as people in the Middle East and elsewhere fear the anger of Islamist Terrorists like Islamic State, and Al Qaeda. It is nearly impossible for any Muslim to leave Islam, because that puts a target on their back. Apostates are regularly gunned down or otherwise murdered. When they take over a place, the first thing the Islamic State terrorists do is murder Christians. And, they are HERE, in the USA. I’m betting you didn’t hear of what happened in Jersey City, NJ. Get a load of this story. If you dare to draw cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, this is what happens to you. Or this.
The reason? Homosexuals, Muslims, and Liberals are that first, everything else later. Liberal Jews often disparage the State of Israel, because their Liberal ideology urges them to support the so-called Palestinians over their own people. Homosexuals are homosexual first, even “freedom-lover” later. They are so invested in being thought “normal” that they will attempt to tear down civil society, starting with the institution of Marriage, moving on to the Boy Scouts, and … What’s next? Religion, of course. Muslims demand total obedience from their followers, and murder those who don’t conform. If the world’s great religions teach that homosexual behavior is “an abomination unto the Lord”, well then those religions need to be brought to their knees. And the homosexual lobby has made a good start at that.
The big question is, who will stand up to them? Not the leadership of the Catholic Church in Ireland, which stood by while the population voted overwhelmingly in favor of homosexual “marriage”. Will you have the courage to stand up to the rabid homosexual lobby? Will YOU?
I’ve had a bunch of dental work done lately. I tried something new, to make the time go faster. I don’t know about you, but when the dentist or hygienist is working on me, I close my eyes. I decided to start paying attention to what I see behind my closed lids. First of all, in a light room, if you look you can see the blood vessels of your retina reflected on your eyelids. I watch the blood vessels, and try to follow their curving paths. I have a lot of “floaters” in my eyes, and with my eyes closed, I try to see what they do when I move my eyes in different directions.
You know how when you look at a bright light, or maybe a camera flash, you see bright images even when you close your eyes? When in the dentist chair, if I look at the bright light over my head, then close my eyes, I can count the seconds until that bright image disappears. Actually, it lasts a few seconds, then “winks out”. Instead of fading out, it simply disappears.
Next time you’re in the dentist’s chair, try paying attention to what’s behind your closed eyelids. Maybe you’ll see something interesting or unexpected. In any case, in no time at all, the dentist will be done, and you’ll forget how much time has passed.
This is a wall at the (former) fortress of Masada, in Israel. Where the remaining inhabitants committed mass suicide rather than be slaughtered by the Romans. Wall broken. People, not so much.
Back in 2010, we outran this thunderstorm all the way across Iowa. Force of Nature? You bet!
Last month, we flew to Denver for a Hillsdale College National Leadership Seminar. The subject was Churchill, and how his life and accomplishments are relevant to us today. We listened to many great speakers, and met fellow Hillsdale supporters. Here is what we saw from our hotel room when we woke up the first day there:
After the Seminar was finished, we had time for sightseeing. We spent a day with my freshman year college roommate, who still lives in Denver. They took us around town, to the college campus (which is a different college now), and up to Lookout Mountain. Here’s the view down toward Golden (home of Coors).
Please also note that the Coors family are big Hillsdale supporters.
We then drove down to Colorado Springs, to meet up with some fellow Ricochet members. We saw this fellow in the back yard of some new Ricochet friends.
Our next stop was the Garden of the Gods Park, a beautiful public facility, built among some pretty spectacular rock formations. I was a picture-taking fool, all along the paved trails among the spires. Here are some.
Yes, rock-climbing is permitted there, and we saw a few climbers that day.
Magpies are pretty common, but we love their pretty black and white (and some green) plumage.
The following day, we were set to fly home in the late afternoon, so we decided to take a drive partway up Pike’s Peak.
Only one major adventure remained. We poorly planned our trip the last day, and we ended up missing our flight home by about 1/2 hour. Since there is no such thing as an “airport hotel” by the new Denver airport (the nearest lodging is 12 miles away), we spent the night, awake, in the airport, waiting for the next flight at 6AM. That picture below, in my post entitled “What is the subject of this picture?”, is the ceiling of the main hall in the Denver airport (yeah, I was a picture-taking fool there too). All in all, a very eventful trip.
A couple of weeks ago, there was a story in the Wall Street Journal entitled “Medical-School Test Gets a Revamp”. No kidding! The first paragraph reads (sorry, no link, as this is behind the WSJ paywall):
“The essay section is out and sociology is in, and test-takers will need to be as familiar with psychology terms like “reciprocal determination” as they are with organic chemistry.” [author’s note-I have a Master’s degree in psychology, and that term is unknown to me]
So the political-correctness, “social justice” movement has now infected the education of medical professionals in the US. “Official review material includes such concepts as social inequality, class consciousness, racial and ethnic identity, institutionalized racism and discrimination, and power, privilege, and prestige.”
As a doctor, will you now be required to tell your patients to “check your white privilege at the door”? Will you be required to give your “disadvantaged” patients discounts on their (Obamacare-mandated) copays? Will you be required in medical school to prove your Liberal bona-fides before being accepted? Will this new test screen out all those who do not subscribe to the viewpoint that the reason there are fewer black doctors than white doctors is due to institutionalized racism? Will the “social justice” courses crowd out the biology, chemistry, and anatomy courses that doctors need to understand and treat the human body?
One doctor said about the new test “This is not science. [It’s] agenda-driven garbage”, when he reviewed the material posted by the Khan Academy, a test-prep company. I have to agree with him. However, those taking the new test will primarily have been educated in the public schools, where they imbibe this kind of crap from kindergarten, so it won’t seem a problem for them.
Doctors among my followers, what do you have to say? I’d really like to hear what you think of the changes to the MCAT test.
