Just recently, the Irish Parliament and the Foreign Minister, Simon Coveney, issued a declaration that Santa Claus will be classified as an “Essential Worker”, and allowed to travel freely.
Now, what is wrong with this declaration? Only everything. Does Santa Claus check with the government of every country on Christmas Eve to make sure that he has overflight permission? Nope. Does Santa Claus care what governments think of him? Nope. Does Santa Claus know that the entire world is suffering under government lockdowns due to the presence of a new coronavirus, which came from China? Probably. Does that affect his route or his ability to fly around the world with a sleigh full of toys and goodies for children? Nope. Does Santa need to be “allowed” to travel this year? Definitely Not! Will Santa be wearing a mask this year, when he goes down all those chimneys? I sure hope not.
My guess is that, this year, Santa Claus will be taking special care to bring wonderful toys to all the unfortunate children who are suffering, alone at home without their friends and relatives, because of their government lockdowns. Santa Claus has nothing to do with government, or with “public health”, or lockdowns, or mask mandates. Santa Claus is about Christians all over the world celebrating the birth of their Savior, Jesus Christ. Santa Claus is about cookies and milk, filled stockings, wish lists, joyful Christmas Carols, and loving families.
My thanks to an Irish blogger whom I follow, who brought this to my attention. May all the Irish people, and people the world over, make for themselves a Merry Christmas, and watch for Santa on Christmas Eve. This year, we all need Christmas more than ever.
Hi, RB! Kris Kringle’s magic knows no borders – or anything to do with civil governments – though NORAD has tracked his progress on the circumnavigational flight since 1955. Ireland has gone “crackers”! A bit of Advent first, then *lots* of Christmas! I love that song…HUGS to share and Thanks!
Hi, Nanda!
Yeah, the USAF has been doing that for longer than I’ve been around, but their annual announcement is about as innocuous as it is possible to imagine. Ireland seems determined t use Santa to deliver a message about quarantines. It’s pathetic and deserves to be called out.
Hey there, Sir Percy! Yup….This is so obviously manipulative, it’s almost beneath contempt.
