On my way home from work this afternoon, I followed a bus run by Everett Transit. And then I burst out laughing. Take a look at this, and I will tell you why. And, by the way, this is funny-tragic, not funny ha-ha.
It seems that our all-environmentalist all the way City of Everett bought some of the wonderful battery-electric buses made by Biden darling Proterra. And that company went bankrupt in August. The Daily Caller article has some juicy quotes.
The Biden administration promoted Proterra as a leading manufacturer of electric buses and component parts before it went bankrupt. Granholm maintained a stake in the company after being confirmed as Energy Secretary in 2021. In her capacity as Energy Secretary, Granholm directed policies which could have favored her own financial interests, and she eventually closed her position in the firm late in May 2021, netting capital gains amounting to about $1.6 million.
The Biden administration is all about destroying the productive economy by outlawing the use of oil and gas produced in America, the cheapest, most-efficient fuels known, in favor of electric everything, a large proportion of which is made in Communist China. Electric heavy vehicles manifestly do not do as good a job as gas- and diesel-powered vehicles. The batteries make the vehicles hundreds of pounds heavier than their gas-powered cousins, and require a narrow range of temperatures to operate.
The buses had operational problems before the company went bankrupt, according to the Cowboy State Daily. In the cold winter months, the battery range of the buses would significantly decrease, especially given that more energy is drained to heat the interior of the buses, according to the Cowboy State Daily. When cold weather drained the batteries, the electric buses reportedly needed to go back into their depots for charging while diesel-powered buses were used to ferry people around as the electric buses regained power. So, is anyone willing to lay bets on how long those Proterra buses in Everett will remain in service? What a huge waste of MY taxpayer dollars!!

Another way these electric buses can fail is exceeding the weight limits allowed on streets. I think. Trucks manage this problem by deploying additional axles and redistributing the load over additional tires. Can you imagine what a bus with three axles would look like? Or like Lady Penelope’s car in Thunderbirds with two axles in the front to handle the weight of not just the engine but also the guns/cannons and ammunition.
