We Washingtonians all know that our State Legislature, which has been heavily weighted towards DemocRats for over 40 years, is dead set on passing an Income Tax on citizens, regardless of the fact that it is Unconstitutional based on our state Constitution. Every single session, some Democrat files a bill instituting an Income Tax, and this year it has been Passed by the State Senate, and is now under consideration by the House of (non) Representatives. They call it a “Millionaires Tax”, implying that it will only hit citizens with over one million dollars in income; but everyone knows that taxes never stay confined to any one particular group, and nearly always expand to include everyone. In fact, at least one state legislator has already stated that, in public, for the record.
By the way the vast majority of those who support this income tax are government employee Unions. Not the Members, the Unions themselves. Teachers and health-care unions are the most prominent. More government spending means more money for them.
In our state, citizens can register their support, or lack thereof, for any bill before the legislature, and you can be certain that the Income Tax has received ample opposition.

-If you won’t pay for a subscription, ST wants the state to take unrelated action to make you pay anyway-Also unrelated was the recent ST editorial board softly coaching the legislature on how to better message the income tax and how to get the optics right
-Completely unrelated to that, is the current ST editorialismner Westneat column where he seems to, in a completely unrelated random act of coincidence, echo the SEIU and WFSE union boss claims that “tax the rich” is super popular
-his unrelated evidence appears to be his own narrative of how people feel about Amazon getting a big federal tax cut
-unrelated and undiscussed by Mr. Westneat is the enormous gift in Bob Ferguson’s income tax to super large and rich corporations in WA state who will get their B&O tax reduced early saving them up to $800 million
(The fiscal note for SB 6346 estimates the state’s revenue loss from this early expiration at $137 million in 2029 and $663 million in 2030 (for a combined total of approximately $800 million- this is totally unrelated)
- also unrelated to anything above or below, is the editorial cartoon ST ran two years ago trying to gin up support for demonizing the rich by guising me up in a top hat and horse carriage (I’ll post it in the comments for your viewing pleasure)
-(and extra bonus unrelated comment is the humorous inadvertent message that WA state environmental polices could mean no one in WA will be able to afford a car anymore and only the rich will have travel modes available to them which will likely be horse and buggy but i digress)-More importantly and unrelated, is the unprecedented 60K working washington voters who took time out of their day and signed in Con on the Senate version of the income tax bill last week which to Mr. Westneat seems completely unremarkable and therefor unmentioned in his razor sharp analysis of the WA State Messaging problem…

Perhaps the most pernicious part of this Income Tax bill in the legislature is that they have put an EMERGENCY clause in it; please note that this law does not even take effect until 2029!!!!

House Democrats just released their proposed supplemental budget, it includes:
- More taxes, and an unconstitutional income tax
- Additional $2B in reckless spending
- Spends more than we project to take in
- Raids the Rainy Day account
- Raids the LEOFF 1 pension
- More budget gimmicks and one-time sweeps
- Slashes from schools, especially rural/poor areas

The millionaires will all leave WA, so the legislature will apply their new income tax to the closest thing to millionaires the state still has left. That group will be the next to leave, and the process will continue, with a shrinking tax base and higher taxes, until everyone is taxed for everything they have, and everyone is leaving.
