It’s Flicker Friday

Our family of Northern Flickers was by today, and they do come around often. Below are some still photos and video which show them at their best in the yard. I never tire of taking their pictures.

Glug, glug, glug, one of the adults taking a long drink at the birdbath. He sat there and had his drink for a good couple of minutes, with me only a short distance away in my chair.

The Flicker was not alone in the yard-he had to share the drinking fountain with a Chestnut-backed Chickadee.

Today, the whole family was by, Mom, Dad, and Juvenile.

One on the Fence, two on the Feeder. The adult is feeding the youngster on the suet feeder. I was lucky to catch these shots through the kitchen slider, so sorry for reflections. If I had opened the door, they would have flown away. Even though they tolerate me sitting in my recliner six feet from them, they still fly away if I move. When I go outside, I usually have my phone camera set to video at the right distance so I can capture video like the one above.

Finally, another video, just the young one by himself. You can tell that he’s a juvenile since he lacks the red mustaches, and if you look carefully you can see that he is perching on the top cover of the feeder, and not the mesh where he can rest his tail on the provided lower extension of the feeder. I bought a new one, since my flickers had outgrown the tail rest on the old feeder!
