I have a love/hate relationship with flickers. On the one hand, love birds being in my back yard, (except for the pigeons that my neighbor feeds. 50 pigeons roosting on my roof is too much and I’m going to start shooting them with a pellet gun to see if I can make them go away). On the other hand, they drilled three holes in the side of my house to build a nest and I had to dangle 15 feet in the air from an upstairs window to staple wire mesh over the holes before they could actually establish the nest. Once they are established it is a federal offense to tamper with them.
There are plenty of big trees in the green space next door and the neighbor’s huge yard for the flickers to nest in, so they don’t bother the house.
