What’s “The Usual” you ask? Let’s start with high gasoline and diesel prices. Per our local legacy media, Washington State has the second-highest gas prices in America. For example, here are some of my local gas station prices from earlier this week. Some are higher today!

This KOMO Story tells us that the statewide average is $5.57 per gallon. Here’s a quote from the story.
The average price for a gallon of gas statewide is now $5.57, according to AAA, a new record. In King County, the average is $5.82. In Pierce County, drivers are paying $5.69 on average.
AAA reports the most expensive gas in the state is in Pacific County, where the average is $6.03 a gallon. The cheapest gas in the state, on average, is in Asotin County at $4.87, according to AAA.
A year ago, the average price in the state was $4.27 — about what the national average is now. Gas prices in the state are higher in part because of taxes and costs passed on from climate initiatives.
Prices are not expected to come down anytime soon. The price of a barrel of oil jumped past $126 Thursday as traders worried about the war in Iran continuing longer, after President Trump extended a blockade of Iranian ports.
Now, what they don’t tell you is the main reason for those high gas prices. That would be the CCA, or “Climate Commitment Act” that the legislature passed, that ADDS $1.34 to the price of every gallon of gas sold in Washington. The local “press” seldom mentions the real effect of this “cap-and-invest” tax on fuel prices and availability in the state. It takes smart citizens to point this out in the comment section of the story. Here are some of the 199 comments from this KOMO story.
What Olympia reported in 2025: Starting July 1, the gas tax will rise from 49.4 cents to 55.4 cents per gallon. Diesel fuel taxes will also increase by 3 cents this year and another 3 cents in 2027. After mid-2026, both gas and diesel taxes will grow by 2% annually to keep pace with inflation.
The annual gas tax increase u mention is on top of the carbon tax ( two separate taxes) . The Carbon Tax is expected to increase by about 50% by 2029 ( western states petroleum association)…buckle up folks as the plan to squeeze you out of your gas/ diesel vehicles into public transportation, bicycles, and electric vehicles hits overdrive.
Or in other words you’ll own nothing and be happy
The goal is to remove you from your automobile.
“Washington state has set goals to reduce annual per capita vehicle miles traveled by 18% by 2020, 30% by 2035, and 50% by 2050, aiming to decrease single-occupancy vehicle use and promote alternative transportation methods. The state is also considering a pay-per-mile program to replace the gas tax, which could incentivize drivers to reduce their mileage.
“Pay per mile program
Mandatory participation for all drivers by 2030.
Charge Rate: Initially set at 2.5 cents per mile.
Implementation Timeline:
Voluntary participation for electric and hybrid vehicle owners starting July 2026.
The very high prices for everything is a big reason why citizens and companies are moving out of Washington State. And, not helping the flow of traffic in Seattle, their Socialist mayor decides to make a bus-only lane on Denny Way, one of the busiest arterials in downtown Seattle. [see comment above on removing the public from their automobiles]. In case you are unaware, transit of every kind has seen reduced ridership, since the Covid havoc made everyone afraid to be around others, especially in confined spaces. Seattle has the additional problem of homeless drug-users spending long periods of time on downtown buses, ruining the experience for normal riders.
In other Transit News, the park-and-ride lots of the Northgate and Shoreline Light Rail stations will now charge a FEE for permits to park there. A very common complaint from riders is the lack of sufficient parking at stations, so the commuters can ride the light rail. The Seattle area, by design, has mostly low-density housing, and people have been very resistant to high- and medium-rise apartments in their neighborhoods. I will remind you of RB’s Law: IN ORDER TO HAVE MASS TRANSIT, YOU NEED MASS. And Seattle has resisted that mass for decades, regardless of how the government promotes it. So light rail patrons will now have even higher costs for their commutes. How many will give up and drive?
And, the normal Safety concerns on Alki Beach, a popular destination in West Seattle. Gangs, drug dealers, and speeding teens in cars happen every year, yet the city doesn’t keep them under control. Miscreants get a slap on the wrist before being let back out onto the streets, and no matter the level of crime, “juveniles” receive little punishment for adult-level crimes.
One more transit story.
Here’s how they think about the exodus of large companies from the Seattle area. This is the MAYOR! Note the commentary from a national-level public figure.
And then, there’s this. Homeless shelter in ritzy Madison Valley along Lake Washington. Did the residents there expect this next door? My guess is they did not. The State just assured that one will be coming to nearly every neighborhood in the future, and the resident have no way to stop them. Civilizational suicide in real time. Mad Max, anyone?
The Supreme Court just put limits on DemocRat redistricting to eliminate Republican representation in one state-this applies to all now.
The State Legislature tells us they don’t have enough of OUR money to provide us with good roads, safe bridges, and outdoor parks and campgrounds. That “not enough” includes sky-high gas taxes, a new income tax, and huge property tax increases. Our Legislators literally hate us. They purposely cause us pain so we will turn over more of our hard-earned money to them to waste on “green” projects whose effects are invisible (because they are lining the pockets of the Homeless-Industrial Complex that is ruining our neighborhoods).
And, a little piece of good news in the “bad news” environment.
And our AG is fighting off businesses.
One result.

More, higher taxes incoming. Washington State residents are being crushed by their state government.
Almost forgot the crime. Just this afternoon!
I want homeless shelters in Laurelhurst and Broadmoor. Dozens of ’em. With sidewalk sleeping and needle exchanges.
I want homeless services offered on every street corner in Olympic Manor, Montlake and Denny-Blaine.
I want a series of huge homeless shelters in Portage Bay, Hawthorne Hills, and View Ridge. Up in Madison Park and Madrona.
Unlike the rest of us, the folks who live there voted for and can afford higher taxes. Also unlike us, they’ve never had the luxury of living with the consequences of their luxury values. The warmth of knowing that they’re practicing what they preach. That they’re living WITH the criminals they inflict on the rest of us. For solidarity, don’t you know.
What are the chances? I would like to see them too.
